Worked example
The method
Because JPEG cannot store transparency, transparent PNG areas are placed on a white background before export.
JPEG reduces size by simplifying image detail. Higher quality retains more information but creates a larger file.
All decoding and encoding happens in the browser without a server upload.

Transparent pixels become white because the JPEG format has no transparency channel.
Around 80–85% is a useful starting point for web images. Increase it for fine detail or lower it for a smaller file.
