The method
How it works
Decode the JPEG
Your browser opens the source image locally and draws its pixels to a temporary canvas.
Encode as PNG
The canvas is exported with PNG's lossless compression and the .png filename extension.
No quality recovery
PNG prevents further lossy compression but cannot restore detail that the original JPEG already discarded.
