The method

How it works

01

Local processing

The browser decodes the image, redraws it to a canvas and creates the output without sending the file to a server.

02

Smart resizing

Images wider than the selected maximum are scaled down proportionally; smaller images keep their dimensions.

03

Efficient formats

JPEG inputs remain JPEG. PNG inputs become WebP, which often preserves transparency at a smaller size.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. Processing happens in your browser, and the generated download uses a temporary local browser URL.

Why can a PNG become WebP?

WebP usually compresses photographic or transparent PNG content more efficiently while modern browsers support it broadly.

Does compression always make a file smaller?

Usually, but very small or already-optimised files can become similar in size or occasionally larger. The comparison is shown before download.
